What does a fresher being expected for QA role in an interview?

1. Clear idea of concepts in manual testing, which includes Software development Life cycle (SDLC), Software Testing life cycle (STLC), Analysis, identification & preparation of Test scenario's, Test cases -positive & negative, reporting the defect with proper steps, tracking & closure. Idea of any reporting tools (JIRA, TFS, etc) & Version control tools(SVN, Perforce, TFS, Git, etc).

2. Any one of the DBMS usage with basic SQL queries - up to a level of Joins.

3. Basic idea of any programming language with OOPS concepts.

4. Basic usage of Unix commands - specifically for Banking domain organizations.

5. Some insight into open source automation tools


What's being expected from an experienced QA professional in an interview?

1. With all the above in place, experience into working with Agile methodology.

2. Ability to guide the junior resources & lead them as an example & manage the resources.

3. Insights into various domains & products he worked on, To what level was his analysis made on the product he owned or tested?

4. How was his debugging skills?

5. How was his analytical skills & How quickly will he get adapted to the product & take the ownership of the product?

6. How good was he with identifying the End -End functional scenario's & How good was he with analyzing the features implemented & provide suggestions on improvement from an end users perspective.

7. How good was he with team interaction, will be able to cope with team? To what level he will be analyzing the issues upfront & suggesting those by putting forth the Questions to Product Management team/Product Owner/Development team. So as to get an early resolution, even before the Build is delivered thereby ensuring a quality Build release..

8. How good was he with any of the programming language? how good was he with Resource planning, Test management, defect tracking & automation tools usage?

9. An eye on best implementations from other organizations, which can be propose into our current organization. An eye on latest trends happening in QA.
